About the Artist

Hey there! I’m Becca, the human & silly goose behind Desert Roads!

By some insanely lucky aligning of the stars, I get to live in gorgeous Kanab, Utah, less than a mile from the Utah-Arizona border, with my partner, Tony, and our two dogs, Lily & Haki.

In 2021, I swapped a decade-long career teaching in middle Tennessee for the draw of the great outdoors & the American West.  My first stop in the journey was a magical season living & working at the North Rim of Grand Canyon.

After the 2021 season ended, I migrated from the North Rim down to nearby Kanab and have since set down deep, healthy roots. I’ve found my people here— a community who love this region, geek out over nerdy facts, aim to spend almost all their time outdoors, and, most importantly, are there for each other through good & bad. I’ve been working one of my dream jobs as an outdoor guide for Kanab Tour Company, hiking, four-wheeling, and canyoneering. Nearly five years since leaving Tennessee and I have zero regrets.

But how did Desert Roads come to exist? I’ve always been one to love drawing (there was a big part of my childhood I wanted to be an artist when I “grew up”) and back in Tennessee I even had a small linocut printing business for a time.

After moving to Kanab, I knew I eventually wanted to start up another creative endeavor, but it took some brainstorming to land on the right niche. Kanab’s main industry is tourism and something I saw repeated quite often in local shops was a lack of locally-made souvenir items. I also noticed that many amazing smaller sites in the region weren’t represented in what was available, instead it was mostly the national parks. So, what kind of souvenirs could I offer to remedy the issue? Well, being a Millenial through-and-through,my first thought was stickers! Low overhead, low risk, high demand, big smiles. Thus, Desert Roads was born in January of 2024. Since then, I’ve slowly been adding more products to the ranks— magnets, postcards, limited-run shirts, & prints, with more to come in the future. I’ve been the traveler an untold number of times and know the joy a simple sticker can bring as a reminder of the memories made in cool places. It’s so fun to help provide a little bit of happiness like that.

Growth has been steady and manageable, just the way I want to keep it. Desert Roads is solely me, Becca, designing, ordering, distributing, marketing, etc. Running a small business is a never-ending learning process and things may never be as polished as with a larger business. Frankly, I’m okay with that. Because it’s just little ol’ me having a ball of a time. :) Thanks for reading, friends!
